Professor James Stirling, a distinguished physicist and academic leader, is the first Provost of Imperial College London.

Under the College's President and Provost leadership model, Professor Stirling has responsibility for delivering and enhancing Imperial’s core academic mission - the pursuit of excellence in education, research and translation. This allows the President to give more emphasis to strategic issues and the College's development.

Professor Stirling reports directly to the President; both the President and Provost oversee the College’s strategic direction. Professor Stirling chairs the Provost's Board which oversees the College’s core academic mission of education, research and translation, and the Faculties and academic support services that deliver this mission.
